The Penny Foundation believes that every animal deserves a safe and loving home. We match abandoned and homeless dogs, regardless of city, province, country, or continent, with forever homes.
Why should I care about dogs-in-need from other countries?
We always rescue dogs within Canada first but when we have the resources available our agenda is to also help dogs-in-need from other countries.
Think of it this way, if would you adopt a child from another country then why not a dog? Their suffering knows no borders. We have the knowledge, resources, and power to help them.
Most of our “foreign” dogs come from high-kill US shelters but some come from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, etc. (Because the US is our closest neighbour, transportation is a little easier.) In Los Angeles county, approx 500 dogs are destroyed PER DAY.
Other countries simply don’t have animal welfare and responsible pet ownership education and resources.
