The Penny Foundation was founded by Alexis Adams in 2008. Alexis grew up in Calgary, Alberta aka 'Beef Country'. Alexis' mother instilled in her a love and respect for all animals.

After moving to Vancouver, BC in 2005 and learning about the considerable cruelty bestowed on animals that supply our food, cosmetic, fashion and pet companion industries; Alexis became a vegetarian with the goal still to become a full-fledged vegan.

Alexis' calling to rescue homeless pets is dedicated to the memory of her family dog, Penny; adopted from a rescue organization in Calgary. Penny taught Alexis there can be a caring home for all pets, despite their past…it just takes a little matchmaking and a lot of love.
