YOU WANT A PUREBRED?
Or designer breed? But can't afford the breeder or pet store price?
Whatever the reason, we're not here to change your mind. Since we work mostly in big cities like Vancouver and Seattle we understand that a large percentage of the population reside in apartments that may have pet restrictions like weight & breed or in some cases people just have an affinity for a specific breed. For the record, The Penny Foundation has an affinity for all dogs, especially those that are deemed "unadoptable", usually large mixed breed dogs.

But where do these purebreds come from?
There are hundreds of puppy mills in Canada, usually found in Ontario & Quebec, which supply pet stores. Plus, there are thousands upon thousands of puppy mills in the US that export 20,000 of their puppies to Canada. When these puppy mills are shut down by the authorities because most are deemed to have inhumane conditions, there can be hundreds of dogs that end up homeless. Backyard breeders can be found everywhere and usually advertise online and can charge thousands of dollars for the "mixed-breed-of-the-week", i.e. Goldendoodle, Tea Cup Chihuahua, Puggle, etc. What happens when those puppies don't sell??
It's estimated that 40% of dogs in the US shelter system are purebreds. Almost all of these dogs come from puppy mills and backyard breeders.
As you can see, puppy mills and backyard breeders contribute dramatically to the dog overpopulation problem and in turn greatly diminish the chances a dog in a shelter will find a home. There just aren't enough good homes to go around. So please, do not support them.
