Life should be easy for a five day old puppy - brothers and sisters to
snuggle with in a warm bed and a mom taking care of your every need. For
Olwin the reality was a kennel at a shelter where he and his four
littermates along with their 18 month old mother were facing euthanasia.
That's when The Penny Foundation stepped in to rescue the family from the
San Bernardino Animal Control shelter. The family was flown via Pilots N Paws to Northern California where pilot, Cindy Smith, fostered the
family.
Olwin's ordeal wasn't over yet. He had a nice new foster home with his family but Cindy noticed right away that little Olwin wasn't nursing. She took him to see Dr. Charles Walls DVM who found Olwin's jaw had been broken in two places. To survive, Olwin needed a feeding tube and a mask to hold his jaw in place so it could heal properly.
Luckily for Olwin the feeding tube was successful. He got the meal he
needed every couple of hours and continued to grow as a puppy should.
After a few weeks, his jaw was completely healed. The time at the vet
office was also fortuitous for the little pup. The vet tech that took care
of Olwin, Rod, and his wife, Kym, fell in love and decided to adopt him.
Olwin received the best care possible. He can eat like a normal puppy and
there's only a slight deformity to his jaw. Even better for Olwin, he now
lives in Northern California with his new forever family, Rod & Kym, a Toy
Fox Terrier, a Pitbull X, and two cats.
